Honoring Our Sexton Family

November is National Gratitude Month, and it’s a perfect time for COS to pause and give thanks for all the people who make our community thrive. Our clergy, LEMs, ushers, readers, musicians, altar guild, office staff, sound crew, finance and property teams, parishioners who volunteer their precious time, and many more offer their gifts with care and dedication. And behind the scenes, our sexton team shoulders countless tasks that help our campus run smoothly. This month, we’d like to shine a grateful light on our three sextons and the many ways they serve our parish.
If you have ever walked onto campus and felt a sense of warmth or beauty, there is a good chance you have the Quach/Barrera family to thank for that. Week after week, our sextons work with love to maintain the sacred spaces where we gather, pray, learn, and celebrate.
Many of us know Kevin Quach by name — our “Sunday Sexton” who handles everything from setups to last-minute emergencies with patience and grace. And Kevin (who also works Saturdays and during the week) isn’t doing this work alone. With him are his mother, Maria Quach, and his uncle, Raul Barrera, who work together to care for every corner of our campus.
One place where their efforts truly shine is Cleaver Hall. Every event we host — whether it’s a forum, parish dinner, celebration, fundraiser, reception, or ministry meeting — is set up and cleaned up by this team. They move tables, chairs, risers, kitchen equipment, sound systems, and décor — often late at night or early in the morning — so that our community can gather with ease and comfort. The sextons make sure the room looks just right … and then they sweep, mop, and reset it all again for the next group. It is an extraordinary amount of labor, done with deep care.
They are the first here and often the last to leave. They are the ones who make sure our worship and fellowship feel welcoming, and our campus feels like home.
Please join us in offering your appreciation. A warm “thank you,” a kind word, or a note or card means more than you may know. Kevin, Maria, and Raul, your care makes all of our ministries possible. We see you. We appreciate you. We thank God for you.
