Hello COS families,
As all of our COS ministries start preparing for Our Saviour Sunday, I’d like to share some opportunities for our young singers to get involved at COS. The youth choirs are back and gearing up for our first rehearsal on Wednesday September 22nd from 3 to 5 pm. We are also offering a fun new program called WHAM, that coincides with our choir rehearsals. Please continue reading for more details about youth choirs and our WHAM program.
Children and Youth Choir: COS Children’s and Youth Choirs are designed for ages 5–12 and are centered around music education. Our younger singers learn the basics of music and singing through musical games. As singers progress through the music program, they are given more challenging music that deepens their growth as musicians. All singers have the opportunity to not only learn to sing but also experiment with a variety of percussion and mallet instruments such as drums and xylophones. The youth choirs participate in our worship services about once a month, as well as our Christmas Pageant and Spring Concert. Please contact Taylor Vazquez-Reyes at taylorvr@cosepiscopal.org for more information about how to join the youth choirs.
W.H.A.M.: WHAM stands for Wednesdays Homework And Music! This is a new program for 5-year-olds all the way up to 8th graders. WHAM is an after-school opportunity for children and youth to form their own community, work on their homework, and/or participate in choir. The structure of the program is that we gather on Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 5 pm. During that time, we have a snack, share a bit about what’s going on in our lives, and then have a block of time to either work on homework or participate in choir. After the choir/homework block, we’ll regather and conclude our time with a group game. There is a small fee for WHAM/Choir of $100 a season (September–December and January–May); however we have scholarships available if the cost is prohibitive. Please contact Annie Thornberg at annet@cosepiscopal.org if your student is interested in participating in this exciting new program or if you would like to volunteer to help!
Thank you,
Taylor Vazquez-Reyes
Director of Music
