At the close of summer vacation this year, many students on the Dorris Dann Kids Campus anticipated reuniting with friends and embarking on a new school year. For some pupils, though, the first day of school held more anxiety than excitement. The staff and parishioners at Church of Our Saviour understood that many students were lacking the resources to feel fully prepared.
On August 18, the COS family came together for its annual Backpack Drive and Blessing of the Backpacks, celebrating the influence of community support on student success. More than 65 backpacks — complete with notebooks, pencils, markers, and other supplies — were donated to Our Saviour Center, brightening the first days of school for these students.
“The donations are of great significance to students, as many of them lack the opportunity to choose their school supplies, often relying on used items. Through these donations, students can exercise choice and are noticeably enthusiastic as they receive brand-new items.” This sentiment was expressed by Marguerite Ponce, Program Director at Dorris Dann Kids Campus.
OSC’s Kids Campus sends a heartfelt thank you to all our amazing donors for their generous gifts of backpacks and school supplies, and for helping schoolchildren to be well prepared for learning!
