(Y)our Saviour Spotlight: Our Saviour Center’s Kids Campus Celebrates a Sweet 16

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

September 11, 2022, marks the sixteenth anniversary of the opening of Our Saviour Center’s Dorris Dann Kids Campus (DDKC). Affectionately named after the late, great former Executive Director Dorris Dann, DDKC provides after-school and summer programming for children, grades TK through eight. DDKC is the only recreational building in the city of El Monte that is solely dedicated to address the educational, physical, artistic, social and cultural needs of the area’s youth.

“It has been a privilege to serve our community’s children over the last sixteen years, with programming has grown and been strengthened with a focus on social emotional learning that really impacts their young lives. I look forward to providing our kids with another sixteen years,” Marguerite Ponce, DDKC Director, says.

Operations Manager Jose Vega continues with the sentiment, “Kids Campus has produced generations of kids that are better equipped at school and later, for college and the workforce. It’s been a pleasure to see our kids grow up, become parents and grandparents, and bring their own children and grandchildren to our program. All of the staff here are proud to work to ensure that today’s youth are provided with the opportunities to thrive and grow.”

Dorris Dann Kids Campus is now offering opportunities for members of the community to interact with and assist youth as volunteers. Volunteers can offer tutoring assistance in math and English weekdays from 3 pm to 6 pm, help with general office duties, or share their specific skill sets for limited mini-courses, such as in music, wood working, the arts, or any other skill to share. For questions on how you can volunteer at Kids Campus or to learn more about after-school or summer programs for children, please call (626) 329-0860 or email info@kcycenter.org
