Inside and outside religious circles, the Parable of the Good Samaritan may be one of the best-known of Jesus’ teachings. In it, Jesus speaks of a Samaritan man who stops and offers assistance to a stranger in need, without any demand for explanation, justification, or recompense. Judeans at the time actually reviled Samaritans, considering them unsophisticated and unclean. In the context of the community Jesus imparts the story to, Samaritans were understood to be “the other.” This offers an additional level of challenge to the intended audience. Furthermore, Jesus offers this tale in response to a challenge made to him in the form of a question: “And who is my neighbor?”
Who is your neighbor? Who are our neighbors? And, how are we treating them? At our best, how should we be regarding our neighbors? What does love look like to your neighbors, and our neighbors?
On Sunday, July 27th, The Church of Our Saviour will host a delegation from Taiwan led by Episcopal Bishop Lennon Chang. The visiting group will include ordained and lay people, as well as seminarians studying for ordination. The purpose of this visit is relationship building with some of our neighbors who are both very similar and very different from us.
Bishop Chang and his team will lead a Forum conversation at 9 am, open to everyone, about their lives and ministry in Taiwan, accompanied by a simple breakfast. Bishop Chang will preach in English and Mandarin at our 10 am service, and his delegation will lead us in song.
Our neighbors from Taiwan would like to experience American food and culture. For that reason, we will be offering them and the entire community a free barbeque lunch at about 11:30 am, following the service. We will be serving up vinegar-based, Eastern North Carolina barbeque, so if you have ever wanted to experience this type of food, you are more than welcome to join us.
In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus does not offer any solutions to the many complex problems in our world. Instead, he invites us to be good neighbors, without explanation, justification, or recompense. What might that look like for you?

Gold Pro and Its Role in Modern Dentistry
Gold pro instruments are considered high in endodontics for their ability to combine strength with flexibility.
