Walk in Love 2027: WHAT IS A PLEDGE?
Our 2027 Walk in Love Annual Fund Campaign is underway and your rector, clergy, staff and lay leadership encourage you to take a moment to fill out and submit your pledge card. If you are new to Church of Our Saviour, you may be wondering what all of this pledge business is all about, including some questions about how our Stewardship campaigns work. Here are the answers to the most common questions about the importance of pledging at COS.

What is a pledge and how does pledging affect the ministries of our church?
A pledge is a promise. When you pledge, you promise to give a specific amount of money to COS for the upcoming year. Each fall season, the Church asks each of our members to submit a pledge card. When added up, pledges become the Church’s budget for the following year. The church dedicates these funds to run its ministries, including community outreach, campus maintenance, and to pay your clergy, sextons and staff.
When does the pledge go into effect and how do I pledge?
Pledges take effect on January 1st and end on December 31st of the following year. Pledges can be fulfilled by setting up a recurring gift on the COS website, which is withdrawn from either a checking account or a credit card; by writing a check; by making a qualified charitable distribution from a retirement plan; with a gift of cash; or by making a gift of appreciated securities. Pledge contributions can be set up in whatever frequency and amount you prefer, including weekly, monthly, quarterly or in a single annual gift. Your church staff can assist you with establishing your pledge payments at any time of year.
Why is it so important that I pledge each year? Why can't I just give gifts throughout the year as I am able?
Church of Our Saviour gratefully welcomes your gifts throughout the year, but because periodic gifts cannot be predicted, they cannot be included in the Church budget. Without enough pledges made in advance, it is difficult to create programs and plan ministries, which limits our ability to meet the needs of our congregation and our community. This is why pledges, no matter the size, to COS truly make the most impact.
What happens if I pledge and then find out later I'm unable to pay the full amount, like if I lose my job, have to move or have unforeseen expenses?
Your livelihood, health, and safety are paramount. Unexpected life events happen and that’s okay. You belong to a church that supports you. Your pledge is not a debt.
How do I determine what amount to pledge?
Prayerfully consider your level of giving. Give with an open heart and an attitude of thanksgiving. We hope you will invest an amount that is the most meaningful and that feels impactful for the Church and ministries that matter to you most. No gift is too small.
If you do not currently pledge, we encourage you to take a leap of faith and invest in your COS. Submit a pledge card during our Walk in Love campaign.
If you already pledge, consider increasing your pledge. Together we build community, and together we each play an integral role when walking in God's abundant love.
