Holy Week reminds us of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice. While many of us have been sacrificing or stripping things away this season, as a way to walk more closely with God, sometimes those sacrifices are not welcome or our choice. Where is God in the midst of our unwilling and unplanned sacrifices?
I Miss the Way It Was
The leaves are gone from all the trees
No green or summer sun
Instead of warmth and bloom, It’s cold
Devoid of leisureness
Dead leaves are littered all around
Denuded limbs remain
No songbird’s careless tittering
Or languid soaring kites
The verdant hedge of green is gone
I miss the way it was
And yet, what’s missing, helps me see
The clarity of now
The net of barren sticks and twigs
Is framing what’s beyond
Instead of seeing leaves and buds
I now see sky and clouds
COLLECT OF THE DAY
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, renew in us the gifts of your mercy; increase our faith, strengthen our hope, enlighten our understanding, widen our charity, and make us ready to serve you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
