Adult Formation is a rich and exciting way to participate in Church of Our Saviour’s (COS) community life. At COS, Adult Formation can be found in a variety of offerings. From small group book studies, to Education for Ministry (EFM) to weekly Sunday forums, our goals are to enrich our faith by nurturing lifelong growth in the Christian faith and practice, to build community through fellowship gatherings, to offer educational opportunities, and to encourage growth and support for our relationship with God.
Over the last few years we have studied books by Richard Rohr, Brother Lawrence, N. T. Wright, Bishop Michael Curry, H. Richard Niebuhr and Henri Nouwen. Currently we have a C. S. Lewis group and Journey in Joy (a women’s Bible study).
Our Sunday forums are organized around four areas:
1. Faith formation such as Scripture study, interactive presentations on the Book of Common Prayer, forgiveness, saints and mystics, Benedictine spirituality and varieties of prayer.
2. Fellowship/Community building - gathering with the intention of getting to know each other better through round table questions, sharing our stories and Advent crafts over coffee and light snacks. And in the near future - breakfasts!
3. Education - includes such topics as the life of C.S. Lewis, a series on alternate Old Testament readings, the history of COS, Advent and Lent, and women of the early church.
4. Outreach - includes regular updates from our affiliated ministries, Our Saviour Center, A Child’s Garden School and Transitional Housing. We occasionally hear from parishioners’ outreach involvement such as Foster Families, Marie -Claire Sei’s Peace Corps experience in Madagascar.
