Last month, Laós Chamber Music presented the fourth concert of our inaugural season. Titled “Palette,” our program explored the unique and imaginative colors of the string quartet. That March event was also the first Laós concert presented in Grace Chapel, a smaller, more intimate space at Church of Our Saviour. We were very lucky with beautiful weather and were able to open the wall panels of Grace Chapel to create an indoor/outdoor experience, which added to the refreshing atmosphere of the music.
We are so excited to continue presenting concerts in Grace Chapel—our final concert of our inaugural season will begin on May 6th at 7 pm in Grace Chapel. Titled “Sunset Glow,” this concert will again be presented as an indoor/outdoor event. You are invited to pack a picnic dinner and blanket and enjoy the music outside under the sunset, or sit inside Grace Chapel and listen to the music close up.
Our most ambitious program yet, our last concert of the season will feature two young composers, Nicky Sohn and Niall Ferguson, who will be in residency to work with our ensembles. Incredible soprano soloist Kelci Hahn, who sings with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and has appeared as a soloist with the LA Phil, will also be with us.
Finally, before the concert, I am excited to offer “The Gathering: A Space for Asian Pacific American Spirituality,” a panel discussion with Nicky, Niall, Kelci, and myself about our experience as Asian Americans and how it influences our artistic identity. Please join us that same day, May 6, at 5 pm in Grace Chapel for this panel discussion and a light reception prepared by The Gathering.
I hope to see you all there to celebrate a wonderful first season of Laós at COS!
